Tembra Molfar Voltage-Controllable Crossfader and Utility. Tembra’s Molfar is a 6hp three channel utility module that delivers crossfading, voltage controlled polarizing, switching, and analog logic. Each channel includes a positive and negative input, voltage control input, offset potentiometer, and mode switch. With nothing patched into the negative input, the module inverts the signal present at the positive input. The three position mode switches allow you to set the behavior of the channel. The upper position crossfades between the positive and negative inputs. In the center position, the channel acts as a four quadrant multiplier; this flexible function is also known as a voltage controlled polarizer or bipolar VCA.

While a standard VCA only allows you to increase the volume of a signal positively, sending a four-quadrant multiplier a negative voltage inverts and amplifies the amplitude of the signal in reverse. Finally, if you don’t want the channel to output any signal, then put the mode switch in the bottom position to mute it. On top of the individual outputs, Molfar provides outputs based on combinations of the three channels. Mix simply sums the three channels. Channel C acts as a control channel for the XOR and SW outputs, selecting one of two possible signals. The SW output uses channel C to switch between channels A and B; positive voltage outputs channel A while negative voltage outputs channel B.
